Medicare is health insurance for people 65 and older and also people under 65 that have certain disabilities. The four parts of Medicare are Parts A, B, C, and D.
Medicare Parts A & B are often referred to as Original Medicare. Medicare Part C refers to Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Part D covers prescription drug plans.
If you are turning 65 and ready to retire, and have no other creditable coverage, you will need to sign up for Medicare Part A & B. You have a seven-month Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) which begins three months before the month you turn 65 and includes the month you turn 65 and ends three months after the month you turn 65. If you are receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement Benefits, you will automatically be enrolled in Medicare Part A & Part B.
Medicare Supplement Plan F pays 100% of all Medicare-approved expenses. With Medicare Supplement Plan G, you are responsible for paying the Medicare Part B deductible, which for 2020 is $198.00. After you pay the Medicare Part B deductible, Plan G will pay 100% of all Medicare-approved expenses for the remainder of the calendar year.
The Medicare Part B deductible is an annual deductible, so you will be responsible for paying it once a year before Medicare Plan G will cover its share of Medicare Part B approved expenses.
