Medicare Plans ColoradoI moved to Colorado in 1974 and immediately fell in love with the Centennial State. I have always known that Colorado was a great place to live, especially for people who enjoy the great outdoors. It’s hard to beat hiking in the Colorado high country during the summer months or driving any one of Colorado’s twenty-six scenic byways.

Colorado is also home to some of the best ski resorts in the country and if like me, you enjoy cross-country skiing then places like Grand Mesa National Forest, located on the western slope of Colorado is the world’s largest flat-topped mountain, has great cross-country skiing.

I was surprised to learn that in a recent study by WalletHub Colorado was listed second only to Florida as the best state for seniors to retire. WalletHub measured 41 key metrics for all 50 states and grouped them into three categories.

Affordability

Colorado ranked twenty-third in affordability, which includes metrics like adjusted cost of living, tax friendliness to people on pensions and Social Security, and the annual cost of adult day health care.

Medicare Plans ColoradoQuality of Life

In quality of life, Colorado ranked number eight for things like the share of the population 65 and older, an elderly-friendly labor market, and my personal favorite, access to golf courses.

Health Care

Colorado ranked number two in health care in metrics like the share of adults aged 65 and older with good or better health, the well-being index for Americans aged 55 and older, and family and general physicians per capita.

I know that studies like this are subjective and that Colorado isn’t for everyone, but people who enjoy experiencing the outdoors, all four seasons, friendly people and much more would be hard-pressed to find a better place to retire.
