Do not give personal information like your Social Security or Medicare number to anyone except your doctor or other health care provider, insurance companies, and licensed agents.

Don’t share your personal information or Medicare Number with people that contact you in person or by email or a phone call unless you called them first. 

If a person or organization calls you unsolicited and requests your personal information, threatens to cancel benefits, or asks for money or checking account information, hang up and call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)

Remember that Medicare will never call you uninvited and ask for personal information. They will not try to sell you anything or attempt to visit you at your home. Medicare will only call if you called them first and left a message or a representative informed you that someone would call you back.
